I have taken these shots over the last year or so on my Canon 35mm SLR and my Yashika 120mm twin lens.
Over the years we have visited many Frank Lloyd Wright designed structures, however, Auldbrass Plantation was a very special visit for several reasons. First, it is the only plantation Wright ever designed and secondly, it is owned by famed Hollywood producer Joel Silver of the Lethal Weapon and Matrix Franchises.
Mr. Silver purchased the neglected property in 1985 and has spent a significant amount of money and time both restoring and rebuilding the properties under the supervision of Frank Lloyd Wright’s grandson.
The property is only open to visitors one weekend every two years and only allows one thousand tickets to be sold. We had been waiting over 4 years to tour this magnificent plantation.
I love Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah and for my second visit in the early morning, there was a fog in the air which added a bit of eeriness and serenity.
I visited Little Gracie again, her story still tugs at my heart. She, dearly loved by her father, died in 1889 at six years old of pneumonia. Her father had the life-size carving made of her which has become one of the most visited graves in the World.
After Gracie’s death, her father and mother left for New England where they died and are buried leaving Gracie alone in Bonaventure forever. People still leave Gracie gifts and trinkets and say her ghost still plays in Johnson Square in front of the old hotel she lived in.
