Poinsett Bridge is the oldest bridge in South Carolina and was built in 1820 as part of the road from Columbia, South Carolina to Saluda Mountain. The stone bridge includes a 14-foot Gothic arch and stretches 130 feet over Little Gap Creek. Speculation is the bridge was designed by Robert Mills, architect of the Washington Monument.
This was the highlight of my solo day trip to Big Sur, where the mountains meet the ocean. It was a chore staying on the road and trying to catch all the beautiful scenery. So many scenic points, so little time!!
