Our visit to California was very busy and very tiring. After a 5 hour flight we landed and we were in our rental car by 11:30. Leaving the Airport car rental facility we were immediately dumped onto a very busy road, California 101 into downtown San Francisco. It was about a 20 minute drive and we found ourselves driving on cable car tracks and having absolutely no idea where we were. Sitting at a stoplight I heard this incredibly annoying sound that was constant, almost sounded like fingers on a chalkboard. I finally realized it was the cables for the streetcars running below the street and our car.
Our hotel, the Days Inn, was on the western end of Lombard Street, the opposite end of the famous curved section. We arrived slightly before noon and were told that a room would be available about 30 minutes. We inquired about a place to have a quick bite and we were directed a block down to Pierce Street, where we found a small sandwich shop called The Sandwich Spot with little outdoor tables.
