Monterey, California – Fisherman’s Wharf

Another tourist shopping destination.  I did buy some nice fleece jackets for the kids, but I was more interested in the Sea Lions.  Just amazing.

Santa Cruz, California

My first stop on my solo trip to Big Sur was Santa Cruz.  One of the reasons I was excited about this was visiting small towns along the way, taking back roads, seeing America…..

Nothing spectacular photograph wise, but a small seaside California town.

(Find our first Day in California here)

Our second day in California started with me getting up at 5:00 AM.  Of course my body thought it was 8:00 AM; this was a trend that would continue every morning until we came home.  So we headed down to the bay to get some pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge with the early morning sun.  With all the pictures I take, the colors are always more vibrant a few hours after sunrise and a few hours before sunset.  It was a very beautiful morning on the bay. Hyde Street Pier

The Hyde Street Pier is a historic ferry pier located on the waterfront of San Francisco, near Fisherman’s Wharf.  Before the Golden Gate Bridge was opened it was used as the main car ferry between San Francisco and Sausalito and Berkely.

Today, the pier is part of the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park.  There were many historical ships here that could be toured, but we just strolled down the pier to get a glance at them.
